Welcome to The Hive
This little corner of Treasured Honeycomb is still taking shape, but I couldn't wait to invite you in. Here you'll find a couple of things I've been reading, listening to, watching, and gathering as I ponder each month's Honeycomb Letter.
Make yourself at home. 🍯
“Beholding and Becoming: The Art of Everyday Worship” Ruth Chou Simons
On the Bookshelf
I was first drawn to this book by Ruth Chou Simons’ beautiful artwork, but page after page, I found myself relating to and encouraged by her words. In a season when the never-ending work of caring for my home and family felt especially overwhelming, this book helped me begin to see that ordinary work differently—not simply as a list of things to get through, but as part of a life of worship.
I especially like “helped me begin to see that ordinary work differently” because it doesn't overstate that the book completely transformed you; it captures that it helped shift something in the way you saw the work. And that connects beautifully to what Treasured Honeycomb is becoming.
Something to Listen To
I've been paying closer attention lately to the words I let settle into my heart—the ones I read, repeat to myself, and even sing without thinking much about them.
I gathered this playlist with that in mind: songs that turn my thoughts back toward what is true about God, His grace, and who I am because of Him. I hope you'll let them fill some of the ordinary spaces of your days, too.
In one of the hardest times in my life, after experiencing a miscarriage, I was no longer able to find joy the same ways I always had. In challenging seasons since then, I’ve listened to it again, encouraged by the reminder that joy can always be found in Christ, despite any circumstances I might be going through. Here are the main points, but the sermon itself is so good, that if you have 40 minutes, it is DEFINITELY worth your time.
Happiness is possible - almost all of us grow up thinking that happiness is natural, but as we go through more of life, we can feel very cynical about this.
Real Happiness offered by the Bible, is a fundamental happiness, not a superficial one. It is inside us, not based upon our circumstances.
Happiness can never be found directly. You can only find it when you are looking for something else - righteousness. When you come to God with the intention to worship Him because He is God, the happier you’ll be as a byproduct, but if you are coming to God with the intention of finding joy, it will allude you.
Happiness is not something that happens to you, but something you chose.
